FIVE ANAHEIM STUDENTS TAKE TOP HONORS
IN LOCAL WATER DISTRICT’S POSTER SLOGAN CONTEST
ANAHEIM, CA (June 2, 2008) - Five Anaheim elementary students were among winners in the Metropolitan Water District of Orange County (MWDOC) 2008 Poster and Slogan Contest. All winning posters and slogans will be featured in MWDOC’s 2008-09 Water Education Calendar, which will be printed this fall.
Anaheim winners in the slogan contest included: Sabrina Orozco, second-grader at Centralia with “We love H2O, it keeps you on the go”; Ciara Nagao, sixth-grader at Nohl Canyon with “We need water to survive, without it nothing would be alive”; and Tiffany Nguyen, sixth-grader at Nohl Canyon with “Turn off the shower and the sink, we’ll save our water, it’s what we drink.”
Among the poster contest winners were Simon Tran, third-grader at James Madison, and Alyssa Columbus, sixth-grader at Nohl Ranch.
This year’s overall theme was “The environment needs help, it’s true, conserving water starts with YOU!” All winners, along with their parents and teachers, were invited to attend a special awards ceremony at the Discovery Science Center on May 29.
Anaheim Public Utilities and Angels Baseball also honored several Anaheim elementary students as winners of the Utilities’ 18th Annual Water Conservation Poster Contest. Winners received trophies on May 27 during a pre-game ceremony prior to the game against the Detroit Tigers.
