ANAHEIM, CA (August 21, 2009) - The Anaheim Public Utilities Board has re-elected veteran member Lon Cahill as Chairperson of the seven-member board, which advises the Anaheim City Council on matters relating to the operation of Anaheim’s city-owned water and electric utilities.

At their July meeting, the board also elected member Kristine Murray as Vice-Chairperson, replacing Marcia Garten, who recently retired.

Cahill, a six-year veteran of the board, was first elected chair in 2007. He retired after 35 years of service in municipal fire protection. His service included fire chief for the City of Garden Grove and served five years as fire chief for the Disneyland Resort. Cahill’s interests include water system supply and distribution and during his fire service career, he served as president of the Orange County Fire Chiefs Association and as a director of the California Fire Chiefs Association. For the past 25 years, Cahill has been a volunteer member of the board of directors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Garden Grove.

Murray, approaching completion of her second year on the board, has a diverse background in the public and private sectors and is recognized in Orange County for building consensus on public policy and transportation issues. Murray also represents Anaheim on the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and recently left the Orange County’s Business Council as the Vice President of Government Affairs to join the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) as Executive Director of Government Relations.

The Board on which Cahill and Murray serve is made up of seven Anaheim residents who are appointed to staggered four-year terms by members of the Anaheim City Council. The Board’s role is to advise the Council on utility matters, including: sources of water and power supply; renewable energy resource options; water and energy conservation and efficiency incentives; water and electric rates; annual capital and operating budgets; and other utility matters.

Anaheim Public Utilities is a city-owned, not-for-profit electric and water utility that is responsible for delivering high quality, economical electric and water utility services to residents and businesses in the City of Anaheim.  Anaheim Public Utilities board meetings are scheduled at 5 p.m., the fourth Wednesday of each month, City Hall West, 11th Floor Conference Room, 201 S. Anaheim, Blvd. Board meetings are open to the public, who may address the board on any water or electric utility matter.
