ANAHEIM PUBLIC UTILITIES CELEBRATES PUBLIC POWER WEEK, OCTOBER 2-8

ANAHEIM, CA (September 15, 2005) - Anaheim residents are invited to celebrate Public Power Week, Oct. 2-8, with special public exhibitions at the Downtown Farmer’s Market from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6.

Scheduled activities include “bucket rides,” where Farmer’s Market attendees can ride in a utility bucket truck and view the city from different perspective as well as Anaheim Public Utilities booths in which visitors can receive information about electric services and energy-saving tips, free shade trees as well as special giveaway items.

Public Power Week is celebrated annually by Anaheim Public Utilities, along with more than 2,000 other electric utilities that collectively provide electricity on a not-for-profit basis to 43 million Americans.

“We all rely on electricity every day of the week,” said Anaheim Public Utilities General Manager Marcie Edwards. “It’s an absolute necessity in our homes, businesses and schools. Having a community-owned electric system providing our power allows us to make decisions locally and use our resources in ways that best suit our needs.”

Public Power Week is a national event sponsored in conjunction with the American Public Power Association (APPA) in Washington, DC.  APPA is the service organization for community- and state-owned electric utilities.
