ANAHEIM PUBLIC UTILITIES PRESENTS HOME GARDENERS
WATER CONSERVATION WORKSHOP SERIES
ANAHEIM, CA (March 31, 2006) - In conjunction with several events scheduled for Water Awareness Month in May, Anaheim Public Utilities is hosting a series of Home Gardeners Water Conservation Workshops for residents and gardening enthusiasts interested in designing, installing and maintaining beautiful, water-efficient landscapes.
Workshops will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on four consecutive Saturdays beginning April 29 at the Anaheim Downtown Community Center at 250 E. Center St. There is a $5 fee per person for each workshop. Participants may attend any or all of the workshops and should pre-register to ensure a space in the class or classes of their choice.
The workshops will cover the following topics: • Basic Landscape Design (April 29) – discussion of how to develop a water-wise landscape plan; • California Friendly and Native Plants (May 6) – review of common water-efficient plants that thrive in our Southern California climate with an emphasis on California natives; • Landscape Sprinkler Systems (May 13) – discussion of design and maintenance principles of overhead sprinklers and drip irrigation; and • Soils, Watering, and Fertilizing (May 20) – discussion of how long sprinklers should run, irrigation clock programming, and how soil and fertilizers affect plants.
At each workshop, participants will view a slide show, receive free workbooks and landscape literature, and enjoy a continental breakfast. The classes are designed to be interactive and allow adequate time for everyone to have questions answered by a knowledgeable instructor. Participants will also receive free water-saving items, as well as information on Anaheim’s Advantage Services.
