SIX ANAHEIM BUSINESSES HONORED
FOR WATER CONSERVATION ACHIEVEMENTS
ANAHEIM, CA (August 21, 2006) - Six Anaheim businesses were honored by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) at the 2006 Water Conservation Champions Awards on August 10. The event, which recognized over 50 Southern California businesses for their significant achievements in water conservation, was held at the Southern California Gas Company Energy Resource Center in Downey, California.
Anaheim hotels Fairfield Inn by Marriott, Desert Palm Suites, The Desert Inn and Econolodge were all recognized for achieving significant water savings by retrofitting older toilets with new, ultra low flush high-efficiency models. Fairfield Inn of Anaheim is expected to attain one of the highest levels of water savings of all the hotels honored at this event. By installing over 450 high-efficiency toilets, it is estimated they will save nearly 130 million gallons of water over the 20-year anticipated life of the product.
The two other Anaheim businesses receiving awards for water conservation participated in Anaheim Public Utilities Industrial Process Improvement Program. In February 2001, Alstyle Apparel, one of the largest industrial water customers in Anaheim, entered into an agreement with Anaheim Public Utilities and MWD to help fund an innovative water reuse project for its textile dyeing processes. Over the course of the five-year contract, Alstyle Apparel’s water reuse project saved 1,665 acre feet of water. That is enough to serve more than 830 typical Anaheim families for one year.
Precision Anodizing and Plating is a high quality metal finishing contractor for the automobile and appliance industry, and also a large industrial water customer in the city of Anaheim. The company was recognized for water savings achieved with a closed-loop water recycling system that has saved over 20 million gallons of water since its installation in October 2003.
“The reason we partner with Metropolitan Water District and other agencies to provide such conservation programs is that the entire community benefits from substantial water savings,” said Anaheim Public Utilities General Manager Marcie Edwards. “Beyond the benefits to the individual businesses, substantial reductions in demand help us ensure adequate future water supply at low rates for all our customers.”
