| MARCIE EDWARDS HONORED AS BUSINESS CHAMPION OF THE YEAR BY ANAHEIM CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
ANAHEIM, CA (November 15, 2006) - The Anaheim Chamber of Commerce recently recognized Marcie Edwards, general manager for Anaheim Public Utilities, as its Business Champion of the Year. The chamber, in partnership with the City of Anaheim and the Small Business Association, honored its 2006 Anaheim Business Award winners at its annual luncheon on Nov. 15.
“The awards honor the top companies and individuals who the chamber feels have made significant impact to the Anaheim community over the past year,” said Todd Ament, chamber president and CEO. “Winners were chosen based on their contributions to the local and regional economy, their leadership role in the Anaheim business community, as well as their growth and stability over the past three years.”
Edwards, who has 30-plus years of service to the public utilities industry and the communities of Los Angeles and Anaheim, has been general manager of Anaheim Public Utilities since January 2001. She has full management responsibility to plan, direct and manage the day-to-day activities and operations of the Utilities department.
“Obviously, it’s a great honor to be recognized for something that you’re proud of,” Edwards said. “This award is a testimony to our business community’s growing awareness of the benefits and services the utility provides. Chamber members are extremely helpful in providing us insight and feedback on many utility issues.
“This award also represents a team achievement, from my talented group of senior management staff all the way down to each and every utility employee. They are the reasons we can deliver reliable water and electric service to our customers at rates that are significantly lower than neighboring communities.”
Edwards was a past recipient of The Orange County Business Journal’s Annual Women in Business Award. She has a master's degree in public administration and a bachelor's degree in organizational management from the University of La Verne. She also is the current president of the California Municipal Utilities Association as well as the California/Nevada regional director for the American Public Power Association. Edwards is involved in numerous charitable organizations including D.E.V.O.T.E. (Dedicated Employee Volunteers Offering Time and Energy) and Anaheim Community Foundation.
