ANAHEIM PUBLIC UTILITIES RECEIVES NATIONAL ACCLAIM
FOR CONTINUING ACHIEVEMENT IN SERVICE TO ITS CUSTOMERS
ANAHEIM, CA (June 28, 2007) - Anaheim Public Utilities is the 2007 recipient of the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) E.F. Scattergood System Achievement Award, one of the electric industry’s most prestigious accolades.
The award, which was presented at the recent APPA National Conference in San Antonio, TX, is the highest honor that APPA bestows on member systems in recognition of their achievement or sustained performance that: 1) was widely recognized in the public power field; 2) served to enhance APPA’s and public power’s national prestige; 3) improved service to customer-owners; and 4) represented an earnest, coordinated effort on the part of the system.
“We are particularly proud of the fact that Anaheim is the first Southern California municipal utility to win the Scattergood Award since 1999,” said Marcie Edwards, Anaheim Public Utilities general manager. “And, it’s even more noteworthy when you consider the fact that Anaheim also won the award that year. In fact, we are one of only three utilities in the nation to win this award three times.”
Anaheim Public Utilities received the 2007 award primarily for its development and construction of the widely acclaimed Park Substation, a major electric distribution substation built into the side of a hill in a developed residential area and covered with a park. Recognition also was given for the utility’s role in helping make the Tiger Woods Learning Center one of the most energy-efficient educational facilities in the nation and incorporating solar electric generating panels on the roof and into a unique transparent solar curtain wall enclosing the lobby of facility’s auditorium.
The public power community is comprised of outstanding individuals who lead progressive, community-owned utilities. APPA believes in recognizing member utilities as well as individuals for the significant contributions they make to public power and in particular to their service to their respective communities.
“It was my honor to accept this award on behalf of the dedicated men and women who comprise Anaheim Public Utilities, as well as the members of the Public Utilities Board and City Council, who set our policies and direction, and the people of the community we proudly serve,” Edwards said.
