SI MANUFACTURING TAKES ADVANTAGE OF OVER $100,000 IN ICE STORAGE INCENTIVES FROM ANAHEIM PUBLIC UTILITIES

ANAHEIM, CA (October 1, 2007) - SI Manufacturing, which recently installed multiple ice storage systems to reduce its peak demand and electricity costs, became the first Anaheim business to take advantage of Anaheim Public Utilities’ Thermal Energy Storage (TES) Incentive Program. The company designs and manufactures a range of custom electronic products for industrial, aerospace and military applications.

SI Manufacturing received over $100,000 in incentives through the Utilities’ TES program, which offers Anaheim business customers up to $21,000 toward the purchase and installation of each refrigerant-based TES air conditioning system at its facility. Customers may also qualify for a special Time-of-Use electricity rate that strongly encourages peak demand reduction in light commercial and industrial buildings. SI Manufacturing installed a total of 5 Ice Bear units on 8 rooftop air conditioning units. The Ice Bear system is manufactured by Ice Energy, a Colorado-based energy technology company.

“Air conditioning is the single largest contributor to summer’s peak demand on the electricity grid,” said Marcie Edwards, general manager for Anaheim Public Utilities. “Through its implementation of the Ice Bear technology, SI Manufacturing established itself as a leader in Anaheim’s effort to reduce peak energy usage and improve our environmental footprint.”

Cooling 14,600 square feet at SI Manufacturing, the 5 ice storage units shift electricity consumed by the building’s air conditioning system to off-peak hours when power is cleaner and more efficiently delivered. Ice Energy estimates that the building’s five units will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 163 tons and nitrogen oxide emissions by 443 pounds over the next 10 years, the equivalent of removing 4 to 5 cars from the road.

“As a manufacturing company in Southern California, we are acutely aware of the energy challenge associated with summer’s high temperatures,” said Bud Reed, president of SI Manufacturing. “Our work with Anaheim Public Utilities and Ice Energy will enable us to capture savings on our electricity bills and contribute to the statewide solution to the peak power problem while still maintaining a comfortable environment for our employees.

” Anaheim Public Utilities, in partnership with Ice Energy, installed California’s first ice storage unit in September 2004 at one of the city’s fire stations, and the unit has consistently demonstrated a 95 percent reduction in peak demand and a 5 percent overall reduction in energy consumed for cooling during hot summer days.
