- Be currently employed as a Police Officer with a California law enforcement agency.
- Successfully completed the probationary period in your current or former agency.
- Possess a valid CA Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Basic Certificate or higher.
- Possess a valid California Driver's License.

- Possess a valid California Driver’s License by date of appointment.
- A minimum of 21 years of age upon completion of the academy training.
- Graduated from an accredited high school or successfully completed the GED (General Educational Development) test.
- A citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship. Must be a United States citizen within 3 years of the date of appointment.
- Be physically fit to perform the essential functions, including corrected or uncorrected vision of 20/20 or better; physical strength and agility to perform foot pursuits and physical restraint of suspects.

A Corrections Officer applicant must meet the following qualifications:
- Experience in personal protection methods.
- Knowledge of physical restraint techniques, detention facility laws and codes; record keeping procedures, and basic computer knowledge.
- The ability to successfully complete State requirements of peace officer training and firearms training as per Penal Code Sections 830.55/832; successfully complete the Standards and Training for Corrections Core course, in a full stress environment; as well as successfully complete the facility training officer program.
- The ability to effectively read and write; communicate verbally and in writing; think and speak logically; understand complex reports and training materials; demonstrate firearms proficiency; act quickly and accurately in emergency situations; deal effectively with cultural and social conflict; demonstrate leadership skills; sound observation skills; interpersonal sensitivity; confront and solve problems.
- Possess a valid Class C California Driver’s License by date of appointment.
- The ability to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- NOTE: Employees will be assigned to numerous training programs, which will include a Correctional Academy and a Level III Reserve Officer Academy. These training programs must be successfully completed within the one-year probationary period. Any applicant who is not currently employed with a California government agency and has not successfully completed the STC Core course or Supplemental Core course must pass the STC – Adult Corrections Officer entry level selection examination.

- Experience performing high volume public contact work.
- Knowledge of English usage and spelling; record keeping methods; principles of human relations; and basic safety precautions and procedures.
- The ability to learn the functions of the position; act quickly in an emergency and adopt an effective course of action; work under stress, dealing with emergency situations; speak clearly and concisely; listen to and record information clearly and accurately; remember numerous details; read, understand and apply moderately difficult materials; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; operate a computer keyboard to enter, receive and manipulate associated data.
- Type a minimum of 50 words per minute without errors.
- Possess a valid California Driver's License by date of appointment.
- The ability to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
In addition to the qualifications listed above, a Police Dispatcher II applicant must meet the following qualifications:
- Journey-level experience operating communications equipment or equivalent public contact work, preferably involving emergency situations or police related services.
- Knowledge of English usage and spelling; record keeping methods; principles of human relations; and appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
- The ability to act quickly in an emergency and adopt an effective course of action; work under stress, dealing with emergency situations; speak clearly and concisely; listen to and record information clearly and accurately; remember numerous details; read, understand and apply moderately difficult materials; receive confident information and maintain confidentiality; understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Type a minimum of 50 words per minute without errors.
- Possess a valid California Driver's License by date of appointment.
- The ability to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Possess a valid Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Certificate or higher.
