Council Member Avelino ValenciaValencia

Avelino Valencia was elected to the Anaheim City Council in November 2020, representing District 4 in central-south Anaheim.

From 2016 to 2020, Valencia served as a commissioner, including as chair, on the Anaheim’s Budget, Investment, and Technology Commission, an advisory commission to the City Council on financial planning, city funding, investing and information technology.

He currently serves as principal representative to state Assemblymember Tom Daly, who served as Anaheim mayor from 1992 to 2002.

Valencia was born and raised in Anaheim and is the proud son of immigrant parents who built a successful small business.

The first in his family to attend college, he holds a master’s in public management from Johns Hopkins University, a bachelor’s from San Jose State University and an associate degree from Fullerton College. 

Valencia attended Katella High School, South Junior High School and Roosevelt Elementary and played Little League baseball at Boysen Park. 

He also played Division I football at San Jose State and later coached at Fullerton College.

On Anaheim’s City Council, Valencia is focused on restoring the economy, public health, maintaining city services, public safety, addressing homelessness and fiscal responsibility.

Valencia is married to his high school sweetheart and now wife Monica, an elementary school vice principal in Anaheim.
