Flood Zones & Flood Hazard Awareness

Flood Zone Maps

Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) are available online on the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) website. To find a map for a specific address visit the FEMA Flood Map Service Center, the FEMA National Flood Hazard website, or contact the Planning Department at 714-765-5139.

Floodplain Management Regulations
The City regulates new development and improvements to existing structures within flood zones and Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs) across the City through the City's Floodplain Management Regulations in Anaheim Municipal Code (A.M.C.) Section 17.28 Flood Hazard Reduction and A.M.C. 18.28 Floodplain "FP" Overlay Zone.

Flood Insurance

If your property is in a flood hazard area, your mortgage lender may require flood insurance. Flood insurance (offered by FEMA) can be purchased through your local insurance agent. Homeowner’s insurance does not cover damage from floods. Additionally, FEMA requires any loans that are Federally-insured to be backed by flood insurance. For more information, contact the Planning Department at 714-765-5139.

Flood Protection Information

If severe storm conditions or flooding occurs, don’t go near the Santa Ana River or any of its flood control channels. You can obtain further information about what precautions to take during a flood by logging onto to the City’s Fire Department disaster-preparedness page. You can also learn more about how to prepare for severe storm conditions or flooding by visiting the City's "Be Rain Ready" site.

Elevation Certifications and Map Change Requests

Elevation Certificates provide flood elevation data about a structure making it easier for your insurance agent to obtain a more accurate flood-rating determination. Changes to flood zone designations are submitted to FEMA through a map change request application. FEMA issues a Determination Letter upon review of a completed application. To find out if your home or business has an Elevation Certificate or Determination Letter on file, contact the Building Division at 714-765-5153 or view them online.
