Public Utilities - Underground Conversion - Santa Ana Canyon/Royal Oak

The undergrounding on Santa Ana Canyon Road, between Lakeview Avenue and Imperial Highway, and on Royal Oak Road, from north of Santa Ana Canyon Road to Nohl Ranch Road, is currently in design. This project will address major capacity and reliability issues with the existing pole lines currently installed along steep terrain which makes it difficult to maintain pole stability and for field crew access. The undergrounding is currently being coordinated with the affected telecommunication companies for joint trenching. Construction for the Royal Oak phase is planned to start in Fall 2019 for completion in Fall 2020. Construction for the Santa Ana Canyon phase is planned to start in Summer 2020 for completion in early 2022.
