APD News

ANAHEIM, Calif. (May 8, 2019) — The city of Anaheim and Anaheim Police Department took a major step Wednesday in sharing information about public safety with the release of video and details from an officer-involved shooting from July 2018.

In a press conference today, Anaheim Police Chief Jorge Cisneros shared a detailed video from the incident as well as concerns raised by it and actions taken by the chief and his command staff since the July 21, 2018, incident.

The presentation, known as a Critical Incident Community Briefing, marks a new model for the Anaheim Police Department in sharing information about officer-involved shootings, in-custody deaths and other major incidents.

The first Critical Incident Community Briefing involved an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of 51-year-old Eliuth Penaloza Nava.

The incident has raised concerns for the Anaheim Police Department and the city. Those concerns and actions taken in response are addressed in the video briefing.
