ANAHEIM, CA - (July 6, 2015) - The City of Anaheim will continue to hold community meetings through September to solicit input and comments on refining the boundaries that will Shape Anaheim’s Future. Anaheim residents are encouraged to submit their own proposed maps defining six City Council voting districts, by July 31.

The next Committee meeting will be held:

  • WHEN: Wednesday, July 8, at 6:30 p.m.
  • WHERE: Ponderosa Family Resource Center

2100 S. Haster Street, Anaheim

  • WHY: Listen to residents from across Anaheim who join the City in encouraging public participation in community meetings.

Hands-on assistance to create and submit a map will be available to residents one hour prior to and immediately following the meeting. Residents have already developed and submitted 15 maps for consideration.

“We are extremely pleased with the number of maps submitted during this first phase and the involvement of our residents in this important process,” said Linda Andal, City Clerk. “Public participation is critical to shaping the future of Anaheim.”

At the July 8 meeting, the first set of three draft maps outlining the six districts will continue to be discussed and refined. The preliminary maps have been drawn by the City’s demographer, using demographic data, legal criteria, Committee direction and community input. The Consultant’s draft maps and public submissions can be viewed at: www.anaheim.net/districts.

Going forward, a voluntary Advisory Committee, composed of five retired Superior Court judges, will recommend district boundaries to the City Council in Oct. The City Council will then hold three public hearings and finalize the districts by the end of the year.

Beginning with the 2016 elections and, for the first time in the City’s 150-year history, City Council Members will each be selected by their own district.
