Renovations are planned at the Ponderosa Park & Family Resource Center located on 7.6 acres at 2100 S. Haster Street, adjacent to the Ponderosa Elementary School. The first phase will be a new 9,000 poured in place Skate Park located near the corner of Haster and Orangewood. The next project to benefit the community will be a new Family Resource Center located adjacent to the existing library. This new building will be approximately 18,400 square feet and will be designed to meet U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED Silver certification. The proposed Family Resource Center includes a gymnasium with full-sized basketball court, dance/exercise room, teen room, WIC counseling room, and multi-use room with demonstration kitchen. This building is being designed around a central courtyard that can host a variety of activities such as movie nights, health fairs, job fairs, etc. Other amenities include meeting and counseling rooms, restrooms, and administrative offices. The exterior of the new building will contain outdoor reading areas and a California-friendly planting demonstration garden. After the Family Resource Center is complete, Ponderosa Park will be renovated to include a shaded community picnic area, picnic tables integrated among the existing trees, a large playground, splash water play area, community garden and outdoor fitness area. A majority of the existing shade trees will be preserved. A new separate restroom building will serve the renovated park.
