In 1984, the non-profit group National Association of Town Watch (NATW) began the National Night Out campaign in order to bring communities together to focus on crime prevention, increase police-community partnerships, promote neighborhood camaraderie, and to send a message to criminals that people are willing to work collaboratively with their local police department to prevent crime.
The Anaheim Police Department strives to engage our community in crime prevention strategies and has a long history of hosting National Night Out. Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 4, 2015, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, the Anaheim Police Department will be hosting National Night Out – Anaheim (#NNOAPD). This year’s event will be held at Stoddard Park – 1901 S. 9th Street (area of S. 9th Street and W. Katella Avenue.) National Night Out – Anaheim (#NNOAPD) offers an opportunity to see the many facets of the Anaheim Police Department and emphasizes the partnerships, both public and private, needed to provide service to the Anaheim community.
Some of the highlights of National Night Out – Anaheim include:
- Helicopter Display
- SWAT Demonstration
- K9 Demonstration
- Mounted Enforcement Unit Demonstration
- Food Truck
- Music and more…
This year, a use of force simulator, similar to those used to train law enforcement, will be on site providing attendees the opportunity to experience scenarios leading up to the split second decision to use, or not use, deadly force.
Live Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram updates will be given throughout the night. Be sure to like us on Facebook at: www.facebook.com/anaheimpd and follow us on Twitter and Instagram at @anaheimpd.
