[ARCHIVED] Kids, families coming together with Anaheim Ducks, city to design Anaheim's next playground

Web PR 7-13-22

ANAHEIM, Calif. (July 13, 2022) — Residents are teaming up with the Anaheim Ducks, the city of Anaheim and nonprofit Kaboom! to design a new playground based on what local kids and families want to see in their neighborhood playspace.

The 4,300-square-foot playground is set to be built in September and open shortly after in fall 2022 as the first phase in the transformation of a grassy downtown field into Center Greens, a downtown park next to Anaheim City Hall and the Downtown Anaheim Community Center.

The 3.5-acre Center Greens is set to include a new basketball court, skate park, an obstacle course, a loop walking trail and more. The park is expected to open in 2023.

Design day on Friday, July 15, will mark the start of the playground design and development as 50-plus children and parents from the neighborhood, the Anaheim Family YMCA, Anaheim summer programs will join with Anaheim Ducks Head Coach Dallas Eakins, future Ducks prospects players and the Ducks Street Team for brainstorming, drawing and other fun.

Supporting the health and wellness of kids and families in the community, the design day celebration will include Ducks giveaways and outdoor sports and activities for kids and families. They’ll join Anaheim Ducks prospects and Street Team members playing street hockey, cornhole, Connect 4 and Jenga. The design day starts at 3 p.m. and is set to conclude at 5:30 p.m.

The design day will be followed by two months of final playground planning by the city of Anaheim, the Anaheim Ducks and Kaboom!. The project will culminate with a build day in September for the new playground, where the Anaheim Ducks and community volunteers will transform the space into a customized, kid and teen-designed playspace, set to open in fall 2022.

This will be the 15th Kaboom! playground in Anaheim and the first sponsored by the Anaheim Ducks with a goal of rallying neighbors around the common goal of improving communities for our kids.
